When transfer windows open, Arsenal are usually found sneaking out the back door only to remember at the last minute that they might need a few extra players.
With a few exceptions, grabbing players on deadline day has become what Arsenal fans are used to.
So, this summer the club have surprised everyone by getting most of their business done before July is even over.
Flush with cash from renewed sponsorship deals Arsenal have wasted no time in bringing in the players that they need. So how have they done so far?
There have been a few positions that the club have needed to strengthen over the past years but haven’t managed, namely goalkeeper, forward and defensive midfielder. In Alexis Sanchez they have landed a truly world class forward. David Ospina is a full international who has been getting better every year since he made his debut as a teenager. Check and check.
The search for a defensive midfielder continues, however, with Arsenal seemingly in the market but not able to find agreement with any of the players they’ve been linked to.
In other positions, they needed to buy a right-back after Bacary Sagna left and not only have they done that by bringing in an accomplished international with Premier League experience, they seem on the verge of strengthening that position further by signing Southampton’s Calum Chambers.
Thomas Vermaelen is likely to leave so another centre-back will go on the shopping list, but with his future uncertain for a while, Arsene Wenger has already been on the look-out. One of the great things about Chambers is that he can also stand-in at centre-half.
As far as transfer windows go, with just over a month left, Arsenal can be incredibly pleased with the business they’ve already done.
If they can just manage to keep the majority of their squad fit for next season, they really do have a shot at the title.
